Dismounting without Assistance

1. Maintain weight on the right seat bone as you lift the apron and remove the elastic band from the right foot.

2. Gather the apron and drape it
over your left arm, then remove
your left foot from the stirrup.

3. Swing the right leg over the upper pommel and sit sideways, facing left

4. Place your right hand on the upper pommel to steady your descent and to maintain distance from the pommels.

5.  Slide down lightly, turning
to face the horse's head as you
descend.

6. Remember to land with
slightly bent knees to soften the
impact of dismounting.

Note: If there is no one to head your horse, hold all reins in your right hand as you dismount.
